This workshop will demonstrate how interactive compressed video telecommunication can be used to "transport" students to the workplace. Learn more about connecting virtually with business partners so students who may be unable to visit a worksite because of age, logistical difficulties, or safety and security matters can experience the workplace. Live interactions between a school and a business offer students demonstrations of academic concepts and employability skills as they are applied in the workplace. Such a project will add relevance to classroom learning, showing students the importance of using academic knowledge in the workplace while challenging them to raise their career expectations. Learn about CORD's Virtual Teaching Center (VTC) and the lessons learned regarding the use of videoconferencing in educational environments. This session is a blend of information about establishing an educational videoconferencing environment and how to use it. Schools considering installing this equipment will learn about the common mistakes made in procurement, installation, setup, and identification of programming. Participants will discuss the many options that videoconferencing provides for meeting different educational needs, including professional development, student/teacher interaction, and effective meetings. Additionally, participants will learn how to offer programming through the VTC and the upcoming national network.
